Automatic monitoring of neonatal patients with potential brain injury

EEG MonitoringTogether with multiple partners, Crosslinks is developing a bedside EEG (Electroencephalography) device for continuous brain monitoring and automatic seizure detection in neonates.

Epilepsy is the most common chronic neurological disorder and the amount of seizures observed during the neonatal period is significantly higher than at any later age. Such prenatal seizures can damage the developing infant brain and may finally cause adverse long-term consequences. However, the visual interpretation of EEG data is very labor intensive, requires specialized training and is often misinterpreted. Therefore, a clinical application of continuous EEG monitoring is rare in the neonatal intensive car unit.

Due to the automatic seizure detection, our dedicated and simplified device overcomes these problems and makes continuous brain monitoring by untrained people possible. This ensures that only neonates with real seizures are medically treated.
